Reading and Illustration

 

Objective: Improve reading comprehension and creative expression.

Materials Needed:

- A short article.

- Digital drawing tools or paper and markers.

Procedure:

1. Read the Article:

- Have the learner read a short article.

2. Illustration:

- Ask the learner to create an illustration that represents the main idea or key scenes from the article. They can use digital drawing tools or draw on paper and show it on the camera.

3. Discussion:

- Discuss the illustration and how it relates to the article, encouraging the learner to explain their choices.

Interactive Quiz

 

Objective: Reinforce comprehension and recall.

Materials Needed:

- A short article.

- Quiz questions (multiple choice, true/false, short answer).

 

Procedure:

1. Read the Article:

- Have the learner read the article.

2. Quiz Time:

- Present the learner with a series of quiz questions about the article. Use an interactive platform like Kahoot, Quizizz, or a simple screen-sharing quiz.

3. Review:

- Go over the answers together, discussing any mistakes and clarifying misunderstandings.

Character Interview

Procedure:

1. Read the Article:

- Have the learner read the article.

2. Character Selection:

- Choose a character or subject from the article.

3. Role Play:

- Role play an interview where the teacher asks questions and the learner answers as the character or subject. Encourage the learner to use information from the article to answer the questions.

Summary and Prediction

 

Objective: Develop summarization skills and critical thinking.

Procedure:

- Present the learner with the scrambled sentences or paragraphs.

3. Reconstruction:

- Ask the learner to rearrange the sentences or paragraphs in the correct order.

4. Review:

- Go over the correct sequence together and discuss why it is the correct order.

Hot Seat

 

Objective: Practice reading comprehension and quick thinking.

Materials Needed:

- A short article.

- A timer.

 

Procedure:

1. Read the Article:

- Have the learner read the article.

2. Hot Seat:

- Set a timer for one minute. The teacher asks rapid-fire questions about the article while the learner answers as many as they can within the time limit.

3. Review:

- Discuss any questions that were challenging or answered incorrectly.

Mind Mapping

Procedure:

- Discuss the mind map, ensuring the learner understands how the ideas are connected.

Procedure:

- Present the learner with various statements from the article and ask them to identify each as a fact or an opinion.

3. Discussion:

- Discuss each statement, clarifying why it is a fact or an opinion.

Creative Extension

 

Objective: Encourage creativity and application of reading comprehension.

Materials Needed:

- A short article.

 

Procedure:

1. Read the Article:

- Have the learner read the article.

2. Creative Extension:

- Ask the learner to extend the article creatively. This could be by writing an alternative ending, adding a new character, or writing a diary entry from a character’s perspective.

3. Presentation:

- The learner presents their creative extension and explains their choices.
